Embracing your Worth - Self love as a Muslim woman

Fake self love vs Real Self love

Self Love? As a Muslim Woman? What does it look like? What does it entail?

It's not about the kind of self-love that’s all about self-obsession or narcissism cause that is the self love we see on the internet, and its not the I am kind, I am smart, I am beautiful self love. No, that’s not what self love is as a Muslim woman. Self love is putting Allah back in the Centre.

  • I want to remind you of something that is so important: Allah has already made you enough."

Allah says in the Qur'an: ‘And We have certainly created man in the best of stature.’ (Qur'an 95:4). This means that, no matter what you see in the mirror, Allah has created you with value, dignity, and strength. You are a creation of Allah, and that alone makes you worthy."

Self love is knowing yourself and knowing yourself is knowing Allah

And here’s the thing, as human beings, we tend to struggle with self-doubt and comparison. We scroll through social media and suddenly feel like we’re not enough, like we're missing something. But this mindset comes from forgetting that our worth is already set by Allah. Our beauty, our abilities, and everything about us that society tells us makes us worthy of love are all gifts from Him. They’re not our own doing , So why would we not love what Allah has created?

So how do we practice this self-love?

  • Actively practice being grateful - Write down three things you’re grateful for about yourself every night. Allah blesses you with all that you have because He loves you, the more you appreciate what He has given you the more you realise How much He loves you

  • Physical self-care is a form of self-love: Allah has given us our bodies as a trust, and taking care of it is part of honoring Allah’s gift to us. Trust me this one is one that I am still working on but being more conscious of what we feed into our bodies

  • Get to know Allah- how do we learn to love something? we get to know them right, the more we get to know them the more we love them. Get to know Allah, the more you know Allah the more your love for Him will increase

  • Self-love involves forgiving yourself for past mistakes, and knowing that Allah’s mercy is greater than any fault.

  • Forgive yourself for the mistakes you made when you didn’t know any better, perfection only lies with Allah. If only we even were able to comprehend a fraction of how merciful our lord is we would not worry about Him forgiving us

  • Be mindful of how you speak to yourself. We are our biggest critics, Don’t say to yourself anything that you wouldn’t say to another person.
